North Bali to East Bali

(Pictures shot in 2006)
When driving from North to East Bali along the lingering coast line, there are many many interesting places to visit. Here are are just four panoramas of a few those places. First there is Symon, a painter in North Bali, but also in Ubud. The property of Symon is named the Art Zoo, and hardly to be missed. The colorful buildings, statues and paintings are very visible from the main road. You can visit Symon's equally colorful website here: Symon Painter in Bali.

The Temple of Ponjok Batu is regurlaly visited for prayers by people who are passing by. Not only the people, but also vehicles are blessed. I saw that some people didn't even left their car, maybe its a Drive-In.. In the ocean in front of the temple there is a statue of a ship. The stone where the statue is placed, supposed to have attracted sailors from Lombok a long time ago, because it had a glowing golden light around it. The sailors thought it was gold, but in trying to get close their ship hit the rocks and broke up. The priest, Sang Hyang Nirata, who was meditating on shore invited the sailors from Lombok and meditated with them through the night, and the next day the sailors went on their way with a miraculously repaired ship. Even nowadays people still see the glowing light near the temple.

The last panorama on this page is from a cloudy Amed, famous for its diving spots, diving schools, and hotels with ocean views.
