Karangasem in East Bali has very beautiful rice paddies, especially in the raining season they are very green. If you are lucky to have a blue sky as well you can take good pictures there. Here a panorama of a traditional rice paddy worker. He asked me if I could do his work, and I said, not yet, then he asked me for a cigarette.
Tirtagangga is a water palace annex swimming pool in Karangasem. Taman Tirtagangga was built in 1948 by King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem. It's unique architecture represents a combination of Western, Chinese, and traditional Balinese architecture.
When staying in Padang Bai my wife and I ran into a night ceremony, and with borrowed sarongs, we were allowed to visit. The dance was not only photographed and filmed by tourists, also the Balinese had a full army of filmers and photographers. These ceremonies are actually quite an intimate happening for the villagers, and I felt that all those people running around with camera's were disturbing the atmosphere.
I tried to get a good shot, but I was to intrusive and I was firmly asked to respect the tradition. Allthough I live in Bali for 4 years now, am a Hindu myself and married to a Balinese woman, I never felt more like a tourist when they asked me that...
